Central Community Development Corporation (CCDC) was established in 2012 to improve the quality of lives of residents in disadvantaged and underserved communities, in the District of Columbia. In 2014, CCDC setup its permanent location in Ward 8, east of the Anacostia River. CCDC’s mission is to combat systemic and socioeconomic challenges and create opportunities by providing diverse resources, employment and training opportunities, business development, affordable housing resources and financial literacy, all aimed at fostering community resilience and self-reliance, reducing unemployment and underemployment, increasing educational attainments and improving economic conditions.
In 2015, CCDC established a trademark, Congress Heights Arts and Culture (CHACC), to address the lack of art and cultural venues in Wards 7 and 8. CHACC is the first art gallery to open in the Congress Heights community and is a creative, place-making venue with a mission to reduce social and economic disparities. CHACC showcases and provides platforms for local and aspiring artists and other creatives through art and design exhibitions, design classes, special events, workshops, branding and marketing and an ART HUB in community businesses. CHACC, serves as a hub of creativity and a beacon of innovation and creativity that empowers residents to become change agents.
